Ropers Majeski Elevates Five To Partner

Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley, P.C. (RMKB), a multi-service law firm offering litigation and transactional services nationally and internationally, announces that it has promoted five attorneys to partner, effective January 1 – Spencer C. Martinez in San Francisco, Daniel P. McKinnon in San Jose, E. Lacey Rice in Los Angeles, Blake J. Russum in Redwood City and Robert A. Suarez in New York.

Martinez is a member of the firm’s Business and Commercial Litigation, Entertainment, Intellectual Property and Real Estate practice areas. His practice includes providing counseling and litigation related to business contracts, business partnerships and other commercial collaborations; intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets; online advertising and commerce; domain name disputes; and cybercrime. Admitted to practice law in both California and Nevada, Martinez is based in the San Francisco office and frequently works from the firm’s Las Vegas office. He is a graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (J.D., 1999) and the University of California, Davis (B.S., 1996).

McKinnon is a member of the firm’s Business and Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property practice groups. He represents public and private companies and individuals in business and intellectual property disputes before both federal and state courts. Representative issues include contract disputes, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets, high-tech software/hardware defect claims, copyright and trademark infringement, wrongful termination and defamation. McKinnon is also well-versed in handling employment litigation matters. A two-time Super Lawyers “Rising Star,” he is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law (J.D., 2004) and Arizona State University (B.A., magna cum laude, 1999).

Rice is a member of the firm’s Business and Commercial Litigation, Entertainment and Intellectual Property practice areas. Business and commercial litigation matters involving D&O liability, insurance bad faith and coverage, film and television production, copyrights, trademarks and contract disputes form the core of her practice. An experienced litigator at both the state and federal level, Rice is often retained and called on for counsel by gaming and social media companies. Her experience in entertainment and media predates her legal career, with roles as project manager and new media producer for a major film-centric cable channel. Rice is a graduate of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles (J.D., 2009) and Emory University (B.A., 2003).

Russum is a member of the firm’s Insurance Services and ERISA practice areas. He regularly represents insurers in bad faith, fraud and coverage-related litigation and in litigation involving claims for benefits under group welfare plans governed by the ERISA statute. Russum also counsels clients on non-litigation matters and provides coverage opinions addressing complex issues under a wide array of insurance policies, including commercial general, business, homeowners, property, life and automobile liability policies. He is graduate of the University of California, Davis (J.D., 2008) and the University of California, Berkeley (B.A., 2003).

Suarez is a member of the firm’s Maritime and Multimodal Transportation, Business and Commercial Litigation and Insurance Services practice areas. His practice focus is on maritime, multimodal and commercial litigation, regularly representing ship owners and operators, terminal operators and classification societies in litigation, arbitration and appeals and in regulatory maritime proceedings. Suarez is a graduate of Temple University’s Beasley School of Law (J.D., 1992) and Rutgers University (B.A., 1988).
