Appellate Attorneys Bemoan Decline in Oral Advocacy

Appellate Law360 - October 2, 2009

Certified Appellate Specialist and Partner Sue Handelman was quoted in the article, “Appellate Attorneys Bemoan Decline in Oral Advocacy," which reported on attorneys seeing an overall decline in how often federal appellate courts hear oral arguments before deciding cases. She says: “We're seeing a significant number of oral argument notices where each side is restricted to ten minutes. I think the pressures on the courts are extreme. Many federal courts have such loaded dockets that resolving cases quickly is paramount — which means making decisions on the briefs, when possible.”
