Chantel E. Lafrades

Associate — San Francisco

Chantel Lafrades is an East Bay native and associate in the firm's San Francisco office. She has experience advising and defending clients in all phases of litigation including pre-litigation dispute resolution, mediation, and trial. Her practice focuses on personal injury, premises liability, automobile accidents, construction litigation, and property disputes involving multi-tenant buildings. Her clients include individuals, owners of businesses, restaurants, bars, construction companies, and property managers.

Currently, Chantel serves as a volunteer attorney for the AIDS Legal Referral Panel. She also acts as fundraising coordinator for a non-profit youth program. Active in the San Francisco community, she provided services to the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program performing work for the Legal Advice and Referral Clinic as well as the Consumer Debt Defense and Education Clinic. She also served as an extern with the Superior Court of California in Alameda County. More recently, she first chaired and defended a five day jury trial in an automobile case in which a Plaintiff claiming permanent injury was awarded zero ($0) damages. Performing all aspects of trial (including jury voir dire, opening/closing statements, direct and cross-examination of all witnesses and experts), she was also successful in convincing the jury that Plaintiff’s employer in the related subrogation matter overpaid workers compensation benefits. As such, the jury permitted only partial recovery (approximately 60%) of all workers compensation benefits paid out -- another win for the defense.
