EXPERIENCE

Edwin B. Barnes is an associate in the Redwood City office of Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley. His practice focuses on business and commercial litigation.

Prior to joining RMKB, Mr. Barnes worked opened the San Diego branch of a defense litigation firm based out of San Francisco primarily representing U.S. government contractors, shippers, marine terminals, stevedores, and insurance carriers. During this time Mr. Barnes traveled for litigation in Australia, Peru, South Africa, Macedonia, and Kosovo and represented clients located in Uganda, Jersey, England, Dubai, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, and Afghanistan.  He was personally responsible for all phases of litigation, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, experts, motion practice, mediations, and settlements, while also multiple trials and appeals before federal agencies and the Courts of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Ninth Circuit.

Mr. Barnes received his B.A. in Anthropology (Archaeology) from Kenyon College in 2006 and his M.A. in Anthropology (Mesoamerican Archaeology) from University of California San Diego during during which time he lived and worked in Honduras, Belize, and Mexico. He is fluent in Spanish with published articles on archaeology and during law school also spent a summer at a law firm in Argentina working on litigation under the SOLAS Convention and on advising clients under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Mr. Barnes earned his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2013. During law school he was a Senior Editor for the University of San Francisco Maritime Law Journal. He also competed in the USF Appellate Advocacy Program competing in the Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition in New Orleans.
