EXPERIENCE
Jason M. Joyal is an associate in the Intellectual Property and Commercial/Business Litigation Practice Groups of Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley. Mr. Joyal focuses his practice on a wide range of litigation matters involving copyrights, trademarks, right of publicity, business torts, product liability and contract disputes. He works in the Los Angeles office as a member of two successful litigation teams.
Mr. Joyal has extensive experience in federal and state court, including the taking and defending of depositions, preparing summary judgment and other case-dispositive motions, drafting pre-trial and trial submissions, and formulating and responding to various written discovery. Since arriving at Ropers Majeski, Mr. Joyal’s notable professional experience includes: authoring several winning briefs, including a successful Anti-slapp motion in a case involving millions of dollars and multiple professional athletes; successfully litigating a novel discovery motion, which resulted in an early resolution of the case after unsuccessful attempts to appeal the order were made by opposing counsel; drafting effective trial motions regarding the exclusion of evidence in a trademark and breach of contract matter that forced the opposing party to accept settlement of the action; and aggressively pursuing material discovery in a right of publicity action that contributed to an early and efficient resolution of the case.
Prior to joining Ropers Majeski, Mr. Joyal served as law clerk to the Honorable Otis D. Wright, II, United States District Judge for the Central District of California. While there, Mr. Joyal performed extensive legal research and analysis in all areas of federal and California law and assisted in the drafting of hundreds of judicial orders and published opinions.
Mr. Joyal received his J.D., cum laude, from Southwestern Law School in 2007, where he served as an editor on the school’s law review and as an oral advocate and writer for the Honors Moot Court Program. While in law school, Mr. Joyal served as an extern to the Honorable S. James Otero of the United States District Court.
Mr. Joyal received his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Economics at the University of California, San Diego in 2004.
