EXPERIENCE

Jeffrey Ta’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, employment law and professional and general liability matters. He represents property owners, individuals, companies and employers in all stages of litigation. 

Recent highlights of Jeff’s successes include:

  • Achieving a complete defense verdict after a 2 ½ week jury trial in a premises liability case against the owner of industrial property. Jeffrey was lead counsel and avoided a more than $6 million damage claim.
  • Acting as lead counsel and successfully resolving a class action prior to class certification against a high-end chain restaurant for meal and rest break violations.  Class members sought over $ 14 million in damages. 
  • Leading a single plaintiff employment matter against a wireless telecommunications company. Plaintiff sought damages for FEHA violations, wrongful discharge, and violations for California Labor Code Sections 201, 202, 218, 226, & 970, and waiting time penalties. Plaintiff sought $500,000 in damages, and the case settled favorably before trial.  
  • Representing property owners in a Clean Water Act citizen suit filed by neighboring properties. Plaintiffs sought over 50 million in damages and civil penalties. Jeffrey obtained a court approved settlement favorably on behalf of the property owners.
  • Obtaining summary judgment for a restaurant client in a premises liability claim.
  • Representing HOAs and property owners in various real estate disputes involving numerous issues including property lines, easements, wrongful evictions, breach of the warranty of habitability claims, and Rent Ordinance violations across the Bay Area.


Jeffrey also regularly handles complex claims for companies and individuals, including:

  • Lenders and financial institutions in wrongful foreclosure claims and lien priority claims
  • Real estate professionals in professional liability claims
  • Individuals wrongfully accused of defamation, sexual battery/abuse claims 
     

Jeffrey is a member of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada, and has served on the Board of Directors, and was also the Chair of the Landowner Liability Section of that organization.  Jeffrey has also been selected as a Northern California SuperLawyers “Rising Star,” an honor limited to 2.5% of practicing attorneys under the age of 40.  In addition, Jeffrey moderated a 6-week training course for young lawyers for the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada.
