Pamela E. Cogan is a partner in the Redwood City office of RMKB. She specializes in the representation of insurance carriers in bad faith and coverage litigation, including liability, property, disability and workers compensation insurance and bonds. Her practice also includes ERISA litigation, contract and tort disputes for insurance agents and brokers, and general commercial litigation.
Originally from Massachusetts, Ms. Cogan attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she received a B.A., cum laude, in 1977. She attended McGeorge School of Law at the University of Pacific in Sacramento, California. She graduated, cum laude, in 1982 and became a member of the Order of the Coif. She authored a Comment for the Pacific Law Journal entitled "Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress: New Horizons After Molien v. Kaiser Foundation Hospitals" 13 Pac.L.J. 179 (October 1981).
Ms. Cogan has been a seminar speaker at the firm’s annual national seminars for more than 25 years, addressing topics such as defense tactics in preparing bad faith cases and the California Unfair Business Practices Act. She has also been a panelist in continuing legal education programs for various organizations including the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), Mealey’s, the Consumer Attorneys of California, the American Conference Institute (ACI), and presented numerous in-house seminars for insurers concerning insurance coverage and bad faith issues. She has also authored numerous articles on insurance bad faith and ERISA.
She is admitted to practice in California and in the federal courts in all districts in California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada (ADC - Board of Directors 2008-2010), American Bar Association (ABA), Tort and Insurance Practice Section, and the California Bar Association. She has also served on the California State Bar Standing Committee on Group Insurance for over 15 years (Chair 1999-2000).  She is peer rated AV® by Martindale-Hubbell and has been named by The Northern California Super Lawyers® magazine in 2004 through 2006, 2012 through 2018.
